About SION Varsity

We don't just teach technology.
We develop engineers.

SION Varsity exists to close the gap between what engineering colleges teach and what the semiconductor industry actually needs. Practicing engineers, real tools, real projects, real evaluation.

01 · Why SION Varsity Exists

The gap between college and industry.

SION Varsity exists because the semiconductor industry has a practitioner gap — not a knowledge gap. There are enough courses. What engineers lack is real project exposure, tool fluency, and access to working professionals before their first job. SION Varsity plugs that gap by embedding its academy inside a live engineering group that shipped silicon last quarter.

Academic Knowledge

Solid theory. Textbook examples. Simulation-only. Graded on assignments. Trained by lecturers.

Industry Engineering

Working RTL. Real testbenches. Live tools. Reviewed by engineers. Projects that ship.

SION Varsity is the bridge. Not another training institute. A semiconductor engineering academy operating inside a live technology ecosystem, staffed by engineers who build silicon every week.
02 · Our Mission

Develop capable semiconductor engineers.

A mission stated in plain language and delivered through structural choices, not marketing claims.

Pillar 01
Practical Education
Curriculum shaped by how semiconductor engineering is actually done — RTL, verification, FPGA — module by module, project by project.
Pillar 02
Practicing-Engineer Mentorship
Trainers are engineers actively building silicon inside the SION ecosystem. Not full-time instructors. Not lecture specialists.
Pillar 03
Professional Tools
Industry-class EDA environments — including tools from the Synopsys ecosystem — used the way real engineers use them.
Pillar 04
Engineering Evaluation
Every student's work is reviewed by practicing engineers with specific, engineering-level feedback — not batch-graded.
Pillar 05
Portfolio Over Certificate
Students graduate with proof — specs, code, testbenches, reports, board demos, presentations — not just a piece of paper.
Pillar 06
Ecosystem Visibility
Top performers enter the SION ecosystem visibility pipeline. All opportunities remain subject to individual performance, suitability and business requirements.
03 · The Ecosystem Connection

SION Varsity lives inside a real engineering group.

SION Varsity is the academic entry point into the wider SION technology ecosystem — five entities across four countries covering semiconductor engineering, silicon IP, AI data-centre infrastructure and applied intelligence.

Sibling
SION Semiconductors
Semiconductor + product engineering. Chip design, FPGA, embedded systems, hardware, software. Where our trainers spend their working weeks.
Sibling
Xtremesilica
Silicon IP development. Ethernet, DDR, high-speed interconnect IP. Contributes deep IP-level teaching to SION Varsity.
Sibling
Datafabrix
Intelligent SSD test infrastructure for the AI data-centre era. Where silicon meets AI-scale infrastructure.
Sibling
SIGPT
AI-native chip design platform. Currently in beta — generating FPGA bitstreams from natural-language prompts. Testbench generation and GDSII synthesis are on the immediate roadmap. The most disruptive addition to the SION ecosystem.
Us
SION Varsity
The academic entry point. Where students learn, build, prove and — if exceptional — get discovered by the wider ecosystem.

05 · Our Story

A decade of silicon. Now teaching it.

SION did not start as a training company. It started as an engineering company — one that shipped silicon, won global clients, and built real products. SION Varsity is the natural extension of that decade of practice.

2015
SION Semiconductors founded in Bengaluru
Basheer Boddikonda, with 15+ years at Google, Broadcom and Boeing, founded SION Semiconductors as a semiconductor engineering and consulting firm. The mandate: deliver real chip design work — VLSI, FPGA, embedded — at international quality from India. Training was part of the DNA from day one.
2017
First overseas turnkey program & international expansion
SION won its first overseas turnkey chip design project, validating the engineering team on a global stage. Singapore operations followed, opening access to Southeast Asian semiconductor clients and building the international network that SION Varsity graduates now enter.
2018
Xtremesilica established
SION's silicon IP division — Xtremesilica — was carved out as a dedicated entity focused on high-speed silicon IP: Ethernet, DDR, PCIe and interconnect IP design and verification. The formation of Xtremesilica marked SION's entry into productised silicon, not just project services.
2020–22
Top-tier semiconductor clients · $1 M+ turnkey projects
SION secured engagements with top-5 global semiconductor firms, growing the team to 80+ engineers and executing over $1 M in turnkey chip design projects. Dubai operations were established, extending SION's footprint into the Middle East.
2023
Training division separated — SION Varsity born
After years of running internal training programmes alongside live projects, SION made a decisive strategic choice: the training division was separated into a fully independent entity — SION Varsity. The separation ensured that the academy could operate with its own focus, standards, and identity — while retaining its deep connection to the SION engineering ecosystem. Not a rebrand. A graduation.
2024
$2 M revenue · 120+ engineers · Global hardware partner positioning
SION Semiconductors closed FY2024 with $2 M in revenue, 120+ engineers across five global offices (Bengaluru, Dubai, Singapore, San Jose, Munich), and 24+ successful tape-outs. The "Global Hardware Partner" positioning was formally adopted — a statement of capability, not aspiration.
2026
Datafabrix & SIGPT established · SION Varsity programs launched
Datafabrix extends SION into AI data-centre infrastructure. SIGPT — the most disruptive addition — is an AI-native chip design platform currently in beta, generating FPGA bitstreams from natural-language prompts; testbench generation and GDSII synthesis are on the immediate roadmap. Simultaneously, SION Varsity launched its structured engineering programs — ASIC Design, SoC Verification, FPGA Design, and the Elite Engineer track — with the first cohorts underway.
